The Spirit of Idaho 12/14/2007 The Idaho Environmental Summit was hosted this week to facilitate achievement of a healthy environment. Public Agencies are leading the way to strengthening the Spirit of Idaho. What struck me most about the Environmental summit, is how strongly the actions of the Public Sector reflect the character of our State. There were little or NO breakout sessions about traffic, smog and urban sprawl. We are fortunate for this. The second annual Environmental Summit was a progressive forum to stimulate action for social change across Idaho. Community leaders met for days to share about SUSTAINABILITY in energy solutions, water resources, growth, air quality, food supply and green house gasses. This dialog was heard by their industry, and so the choir will sing louder. Can you hear them? Public entities are doing a fantastic job to address the environmental issues and sustainability of Idaho's public buildings and public water ways and public lands, including the use alternative energy resources. Government officials, Indian Tribes, land corporations, authors and others are striving to preserve and improve our society. The Summit lasted three days, with almost 100 break out sessions and many topics. Lets attend next year and see how we can integrate public and private enterprises. |
